When a Content Creator Trusts You with a Camera (and Your Reputation)

On the 27th of May, I had the pleasure of guiding Brittany, a content creator born and raised in the United States.

Before we begin, a quick disclaimer: Hi, my name is Romão Nenane, and this tour was brought to you by Maputo Trips in association with Nenane Tours. 😄

From the moment we started walking through downtown Maputo, I had the feeling Brittany was destined for big things. She was curious, thoughtful, and somehow managed to make every conversation feel like an episode of a podcast.

Now, I have a confession to make. I can confidently guide people through Maputo’s history, explain colonial architecture, discuss local culture, and even help visitors survive a Mozambican market negotiation. But the moment someone points a camera at me, I suddenly forget how to be a normal human being.

So Brittany, if you’re reading this, I sincerely hope I didn’t ruin your content with my awkward camera presence. If I did, please remember that tour guiding and acting are two very different professions.

During our tour, we covered a surprisingly wide range of topics. We talked about history, business opportunities in Africa, the growing popularity of motorcycle taxis in Maputo, the realities of being a content creator, and of course…

…the unforgettable experience of being pooped on inside the bat sanctuary.

Yes, that happened. Some people collect souvenirs. Others collect memories. I collect bat poop. At this point, I’m starting to think my ancestors may have placed a very specific curse on me. Every time I visit the bat sanctuary, I somehow become the chosen one. 😭

The conversation flowed so naturally that the hours disappeared. Before I knew it, it was time to say goodbye. Unfortunately, I couldn’t join Brittany for lunch, but that’s probably for the best. If the bats had already targeted me, who knows what other forces were waiting at the restaurant.

Brittany, thank you for your curiosity, your energy, and for sharing part of your journey with us. It was a pleasure showing you around Maputo, and I hope our paths cross again someday. Until then, keep creating amazing content, keep exploring the world, and if you ever return to Maputo, I promise to bring an umbrella to the bat sanctuary.

A Luta Continua.
